Accessibility Statement
We want every educator to be able to use this site comfortably.
TeachUSVI wants everyone — including people with disabilities — to be able to use this website. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure and landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer).
- A “Skip to content” link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Full keyboard support for menus, tabs (arrow keys), accordions, filters, the calculator and forms, with a visible focus indicator.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Form fields with visible labels, clear required-field markers and specific, announced error messages.
- Colour contrast checked for body text and controls; information is never conveyed by colour alone.
- Animations respect your operating system's reduce motion setting, and the scrolling announcement bar pauses on hover.
- Responsive layouts that work when zoomed to 200% and on small screens.
- Self-hosted fonts and minimal scripts for fast loading on slower island connections.
Known limitations
- Some external websites we link to (including government sites) may not meet the same standards.
- The live weather widget depends on a third-party service and shows a static fallback if it cannot load.
- Older archived material referenced on the Site may not be fully accessible.
