Terms of Use
The rules for using our website and services — including what we are, and are not.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website at www.teachusvi.net (the “Site”) and any information, tools and consulting services offered by TeachUSVI (“we”, “us”, “our”). By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Who we are — and who we are not
TeachUSVI is an independent, privately operated resource. We are not the Virgin Islands Department of Education, the Virgin Islands Board of Education or any government agency, and we are not authorized to act on their behalf. We do not post official job vacancies, accept official job applications, make hiring decisions or issue certificates. Historical information about the former teachusvi.net website, which was operated by the Department's Division of Human Resources, is provided for context only.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to purchase Services. The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children.
3. Informational content
Our guides, articles, calculators, checklists and directories are provided for general information and educational purposes. We work hard to keep them accurate and up to date, but requirements, prices, school configurations and procedures change. Content on the Site:
- is not legal, tax, immigration, financial, medical or emergency advice;
- does not replace official information from the relevant agency;
- may contain estimates (for example in the cost-of-living calculator) that are illustrative, not quotes.
Always verify important information with the official source before acting on it. See our Disclaimer for details.
4. Consulting services
4.1 Scope and quotes
Paid services are described on our Services page. Before any paid work begins, we will send you a written quote or engagement summary describing the scope, schedule and price. The engagement begins when you confirm acceptance in writing.
4.2 No guarantee of outcome
We help you prepare; we cannot and do not guarantee that you will be hired, certified, pass a test, secure housing or achieve any particular outcome. Decisions about employment and certification are made solely by the relevant employers and authorities.
4.3 Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us, for submitting your own applications and documents through official channels, and for meeting deadlines. We will never submit applications on your behalf or ask for your passwords.
4.4 Payment, rescheduling and cancellation
Payment terms will be stated in your quote. You may reschedule a session with at least 24 hours' notice. If you cancel an engagement before work begins, any prepayment will be refunded in full. If you cancel after work has started, you will be charged only for work completed. We may cancel or refuse service at our discretion, in which case any unused prepayment will be refunded.
4.5 Confidentiality
We treat the information you share as confidential and handle it according to our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Site for any unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purpose;
- misrepresent your identity or impersonate any person or organization;
- submit spam, malware or automated form submissions;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site or its systems, or interfere with its operation;
- scrape, copy or republish substantial parts of the Site's original content without permission;
- use the Site's content to create materials that suggest an official government affiliation.
6. Intellectual property
The Site's original text, design, logo, code and compilations are owned by TeachUSVI or its licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. You may view, print and share pages for your personal, non-commercial use and link to any page. Photographs from Wikimedia Commons are used under their respective free licenses and remain the property of their authors — see Image Credits. Third-party names and marks belong to their owners and are used for identification only.
7. User submissions and feedback
If you send us suggestions or corrections, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to use them to improve the Site, without any obligation to you. We will not publish your personal details without permission.
8. Third-party links and content
The Site links to government agencies, test publishers, universities and other third-party websites, and loads some images and weather data from third parties. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. A link is not an endorsement.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TeachUSVI will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, employment opportunity or goodwill, arising from your use of the Site or Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed the amount you paid us for the specific Service giving rise to the claim in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless TeachUSVI from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Site.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States Virgin Islands and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. Any remaining dispute will be brought in the courts located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, unless applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings where you live.
13. Changes to the Site and these Terms
We may update the Site and these Terms from time to time. The “last updated” date shows the current version. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated Terms. Changes will not apply retroactively to Services already agreed in writing.
14. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and any written service agreement, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site.
